Digital signage has many uses, but recently digital signage has been used to combat crime, learn how digital signage can reduce crime in your area.
Why use digital signage to fight crime?
Many people will ask why use digital signage hardware to fight crime, well the simple answer is that the hardware will be already deployed in high traffic, large foot fall areas and therefore attract a lot of eyeballs. So there is no need for additional installation costs, many smart phones will interact with the digital signage hardware and here is the unique way in which the hardware is used.
The hardware used for digital signage
All digital signage solutions incorporate either an LCD or plasma screen, that is in turn connected to a media player, ideally a network media player so the content can be updated form a remote location. Depending on the location and distance, either a fibre or copper digital signage can be set up that connects all the screens together, so each screen can be targeted to specific shoppers in that area.
But if the deployment is in a remote location or transportation hub, the hardware will need to be installed in to a digital signage enclosure, these are protective, outdoor LCD enclosures that are vandal proof, so the hardware inside stays safe and secure.
Digital Signage – the new crime buster!
Using the digital signage outlined above, any crime that has been committed in a community can be broadcast throughout the network with pictures of photo fits to the consumers in the mall, or transportation hub and anyone can then contact the free phone number if they have information.
A twist on this was used just after the UK riots when digi-vans traveled the locations worst hit and used large LCD screens that are built into the vehicle, displaying video images of offenders, that resulted in a high arrest rate, proving that digital signage can be used for other applications than just advertising.
This is another reason why an anti vandal LCD enclosure should be used, because the criminals may try to damage the digital signage screens in an attempt to prevent their images being broadcast.
